Context and purpose of the position:

Save the Children has seen significant growth in its fundraising income and donor base over the last four years. Part of the recent growth has been driven through our digital programme, in support of our two-step lead generation channel, our DRTV campaigns and in our newly-introduced direct-to-digital campaigns.

We’re on the hunt for an experienced, progressive and passionate digital marketing professional to play a key role in the Fundraising team.

As our Digital Marketing Manager, this varied role will see you sink your teeth into several digital channels including Paid Search, Social Acquisition, Display, Lead Generation & Email Campaigns. In this role, you will be responsible for driving our online donor acquisition campaigns and wider digital marketing efforts.

You will contribute to the digital marketing strategy as part of the overall fundraising plan to ensure digital outputs align with business objectives, while working alongside a team of engaged, motivated and creative fundraising professionals. You will support and lead the delivery of compelling, connected digital supporter experiences with strong financial results.

This role will report into the Fundraising Director & work closely with them as well as our media & creative agencies to drive digital campaigns from conception to execution, performance analysis to optimisation. You’ll also work across the organisation with Advocacy and Communications to advise and implement campaigns and bespoke digital solutions. You’ll be working in a fast-paced environment, always seeking opportunities to acquire new leads and donors in a cost-effective manner.

Key areas of Responsibilities:



Deliver the Digital Fundraising Strategy through Digital Marketing

·    Provide day to day management for all digital activities, ensuring that digital initiatives are aligned to the overall strategy and within budget

·    Manage in-house or agency campaigns around Paid Search, Display, social media marketing and remarketing, including campaigns for lead generation, single gifts and regular giving

·    Work proactively with data broker to optimise data mix for lead generation two-step campaigns, monitoring daily results to maintain a consistent conversion rate

·    Responsible for meeting monthly lead and donor targets as well as maintaining set cost per lead and cost per acquisition

·    Develop and maintain positive high-level relationships with agencies and other service providers including developing briefs and overseeing campaign delivery

·    Build landing pages and email journeys to engage and nurture new leads, optimise acquisition campaigns and grow our supporter base

·    Ensure all digital marketing activities follow organisational, brand and child safeguarding guidelines

Manage the website & email platform


·    Manage the relationship with our web development agency to ensure our website is fit for purpose, delivers optimal user experiences and is in line with organisational objectives

·    Manage, monitor and look to improve conversion rates on the donation forms while proactively minimising exposure to fraudulent transactions

·    Manage the backend of the online shop, housed on Shopify

·    Evaluate the current email/marketing automation platform and scope alternatives

Provide digital support across the organisation

·    Support DRTV, Bequest, and appeal campaigns with relevant, targeted digital advertising across appropriate channels

·    Support Advocacy and Communications in delivering digital campaigns that support wider organisational objectives

·    Assist Advocacy and Research Director in scoping and developing an online solution for new Schools programme

Perform regular analysis and reporting

·    Measure and report on the performance of all digital marketing campaigns, optimisation initiatives and digital acquisition through paid activity.

·    Manage budgets and expenditure for all digital activity in line with broader organisational Fundraising budget.

·    Deliver post campaign analysis on all digital fundraising campaigns including results, learnings and recommendations

·    Work with Database team to improve attribution of digital income and donors

·    Monitor and report on the ongoing fundraising presence on social media (Twitter, Facebook etc.)

·    Write periodic reports for Senior Management detailing the performance and progress of digital campaigns and projects

Monitor for and act on new opportunities

·    Work with the Fundraising Director and other colleagues to take advantage of new fundraising products and opportunities

·    Keep abreast of new developments in the digital space with a focus on ways SCNZ could improve its Fundraising programme, efficiency and performance

This role may also include any other duties within reasonable limits, as requested by your line manager. Specific Key Performance Indicators for your role will be developed and reviewed by you and your line manager in conjunction with the current business plan and needs of SCNZ.

Person Specification:

The Digital Fundraising Manager will be expected to have, further develop and utilise the following skills, experience and qualities while working for Save the Children New Zealand:


  1. Has a minimum of 3+ years’ experience in digital marketing role(s) with lead generation and website management responsibilities
  2. Has experience working with internal teams & able to effectively manage external suppliers on digital campaigns and platforms to achieve objectives
  3. Can demonstrate proven & illustratable success in digital marketing to achieve business goals
  4. Has experience working with social media platforms – Facebook (Facebook Business Manager), Instagram and other evolving social platforms
  5. Has experience managing website and landing page platforms (Silverstripe and Unbounce)
  6. Has experience in developing and managing targets, KPIs, and expenditure budgets
  7. Has experience working in fundraising or a non-profit (ideally)

 Skills & qualifications:

  1. Has a qualification in and / or proven technical experience in digital and social media marketing, including SEO, Facebook, Adwords, Display and PPC
  2. Possesses strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritise workload, work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  3. Is confident in monitoring & analysing website/traffic performance in Google Analytics
  4. Is highly analytical with a strong ‘test & learn’ approach to improving digital marketing and conversion initiatives
  5. Has excellent written and oral communication skills to engage with our external stakeholders
