Title – Major Donor Specialist, Kaimatai Kaitautoko

 Outward Bound is a specialist training provider, based in Wellington, Auckland, and Anakiwa in the Marlborough Sounds. Our mission is to empower people to make life changing journeys of self-discovery through shared adventure in Te Ao Tūroa, the natural world.

The Outward Bound Wellington & Auckland Offices, under the direction of the Chief Executive, functions as a small team, with the responsibility for marketing, communications, funding, finance, and course enrolments. The Wellington & Auckland Offices also provide support and services for the Outward Bound Trust of New Zealand Board of Directors, the Outward Bound Trust of New Zealand Foundation and the Outward Bound supporters’ network.

The operational side of Outward Bound is under the direction of the School Director based at Anakiwa, who, reporting directly to the Chief Executive, has the responsibility for the delivery of all courses that Outward Bound runs and the day-to-day management of the school at Anakiwa.

Purpose of the role

To create and deliver a major donor programme specifically for the growth of the Outward Bound Foundation.

Created in 2000 by our late Patron Sir David Levene the Outward Bound Foundation is vital to the long term sustainability of Outward Bound. Currently the Foundation fund sits at $19 million and the strategic priority is to grow this to $30 million by 2030.

Fundraising & Partnerships Manager

Interpersonal Contacts

Internal:

Fundraising & Partnerships Team, Chief Executive, OB Foundation Board, Commercial Team, Enrolments Team, Marketing Team.

External:

Individual donors, funding organisations, public and private trusts and foundations, businesses.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the creation of the Outward Bound Foundation Major Donor* Programme with the support of the Fundraising and Partnerships Manager
  • Create the identification, research, qualification, solicitation, and donor stewardship programme
  • Create all funding proposals, reporting, and thank you material
  • Meet all prospective and confirmed Outward Bound Foundation donors annually
  • Work with Fundraising and Partnerships Manager, Chief Executive, and Outward Bound Foundation Board to coordinate approaches and follow up
  • Work with the Individual Giving and Bequest Specialist to coordinate appropriate approaches and follow up of identified bequest prospects and confirmed pledges
  • Work with Individual Giving and Events Specialist on engagement and solicitation events
  • Maintain the database records of all Outward Bound Foundation Major Donors
  • Provide data and information for the Fundraising and Partnerships Manager for Board reports

* Major Donor is defined by Outward Bound New Zealand as an annual donation of $25,000 or more

 Skills/Experience Required

  • Skilled relationship manager
  • High EQ
  • Resilient
  • 2+ years’ experience in similar role
  • Demonstrated success as a Major Donor Fundraiser
  • Motivated and target driven
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to travel on a regular basis
  • Confident database and excel user

  • Managers are responsible for implementing the management responsibilities as agreed and documented in our health and safety policies
